We have experience working with children with the following conditions:

If your child has not been diagnosed with any of the above but is struggling to perform or participate in day-to-day activities at home, in school and/or in the community, Occupational Therapy (OT) may be able to help!

Some possible traits or challenges that your child may exhibit or experience include but are not restricted to the following:

  • Appears to reach motor milestones (e.g. sitting, crawling, walking) much slower than same-aged peers
  • Appears clumsy, frequently falls or bumps into things
  • Appears uncoordinated, has difficulty performing tasks that require left and right sides of the body together
  • Slow to pick up sports activities e.g. ball games, cycling
  • Slow to pick up self-help skills e.g. putting on own clothes, using eating utensils, tying shoelaces
  • Holds the pencil with an awkward grip and has difficulty learning to write; writes with excessive effort
  • Difficulty with pre-writing or classroom skills e.g. tracing, cutting, copying from the board
  • Slow to pick up learning concepts e.g. recognising and matching shapes and colours
  • Shows little interest in toys or does not explore new ways to play, prefers to play with the same thing or in the same way over and over again
  • Has limited pretend or imaginative play  
  • Has difficulty with waiting, turn-taking and sharing
  • Has difficulty making friends and understanding other people’s perspectives
  • Appears to be overly bothered by certain sounds, textures, movement or other sensations in the environment that typically do not bother others
  • Very fidgety and/or very active with difficulty paying attention especially during tablework
  • Frequently seems lethargic, slow to move and tires easily
  • Appears to have poor organisational skills e.g. has difficulty packing own bag or completing homework on time
  • Easily frustrated and has difficulty managing own emotions; difficulty coping with changes and calming self when upset
  • Exhibits non-compliant behaviours, does not listen or follow instructions
  • Appears anxious and/or have low self-confidence and self-esteem
